My 5 y/o has good oral hygiene. today she got a bright red spot on her gums, like a bubble & extra flap of gums. it's irritating her but not extreme.

Dental eval: There a a couple of things that this can be. If it is behind her last teeth, then it could be a permanent molar erupting and you don't need to worry about this. If it is anywhere else you should take her to a dentist to have it checked for infection or abcessed tooth. Please help your child brush her teeth. At 5 she still needs to have help brushing and flossing to develop good life long habit.

Different reasons: If on the gum area on top of the tooth could be abscess/if on back could be errupting permanent tooth..And a list of different reasons so she should see her dentist.
