Clinical assessment: May be gastroenteritis (tummy bug) but worth a fairly urgent abdominal examination and may need urinalysis to just make sure other serious things such as kidney infection or other issues such as gallstones or other bowel problems don't need to be excluded. If the GP isn't open an after-hours centre or failing that an emergency department visit would be advised.

What to do.: Start wi clear liquid like water, soda that is clear, or sports hydration drinks. Sip often to prevent dehydration. Work up to solids wi bland foods like bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, gelatin, or chicken. Avoid alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, dairy & high fat foods. For severe abdominal pain, bloody stool, high fever, or if dizziness is more significant with standing-get prompt medical care.
