If there is no fever: and the child is otherwise well, it is safe to wait a few days, unless other symptoms develop or the child has chronic ear infections. The majority of ear infections are caused by viruses and would go away without antibiotic treatment. Of course if the child has an underlying medical problem or is less than 1 year of age, I would not wait and would recommend calling the doctor.
