A member asked:

People with forms of anaemia or mild may not have sufficient haemoglobin to accuratly test for diabetes as i have thalasmenemia trait does this effect full blood count as i dont have symptoms of diabetes but was tested for tiredness and night sweat

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A1c and glucose: A person with hemolytic anemia will not get correct results for the A1 C test. However, the gold standard for diagnosing diabetes is by measuring plasma glucose in fasting state and some times doing glucose tolerance test. If your fasting plasma glucose is less than 100 mg/dL you are not diabetic. You may visit this site for info: https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/diabetes/overview/tests-diagnosis
