Emergency Room: Your boyfriend really needs to be seen for treatment in an emergency room or an urgent care facility to have this wound cleaned out. Depending on how badly he cut it and what it was cut by, he may also need stitches, an antibiotic and possible a tetanus shot.

Go to ED. : I fear that this needs to be evaluated officially by a doctor. I would not remove the gauze at this point. Rather, I would leave the gauze in place and go to an emergency room. Let the doctors there remove the gauze and see what’s underneath. At this point in time, I am concerned about the risk of hemorrhage and infection.
