I plucked a bunch of nose hairs and just saw online that this can lead to an abscess in the brain or meningitis, how common is this? a bit concerned.

Not common: The circulation in nose is shared with brain and due to close proximity there is concern. Rare to get infection unless there is a serious bacterial load from sinus infection or your immune system is weak already like being on steroids or having chemotherapy. Watch for serious headache and stiff neck but you most likely want will not have a problem.
