Pregnancy: The baby should remain in the uterus unless it is dangerous (infection, fever, distress), usually up to 42 weeks. At 40 weeks it has been a very long time being pregnant and impatience is common. My advice is not to take the baby out before it's done incubating.

No: Most pregnant go into spontaneous labor when the body and baby are ready. Most such labors end up in normal vaginal delivery. There has to be an indication to force a baby out. This can be maternal or fetal. although an induction can be done after 40weeks with pregnancy with an indication of overdue. Technically it should be at 42 weeks.

Ask for OB GYN MD: It is time to ask your Family Practice MD for a OB GYN MD Consultation regarding your pregnancy. At 40 weeks, most OB GYN MD's will not accept a new patient for continuing OB care without it being a Consultation from another MD, or you were seen initially in labor or delivery in a hospital facility. Your concerns about induction needs to be addressed and not ignored nor any other OB question.
