The main adverse effect of idiopathic intracranial hypertension is swelling and damage to the optic nerve potentially causing headaches, visual loss including blind spots, poor peripheral vision, double vision, and maybe even blindness. It is important to have a full neurologic work up with imaging and spinal tap to exclude other causes. Weight loss if overweight is imperative
