A member asked:

Used to have non-severe freq heartburn @night for 10 yrs, but lost wt, better diet/exercise & no symptoms for 4 yrs now. should i check for barretts?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably not: With long standing history of severe GERD's the diagnosis of Barrett's esophagus should not be of concern It is, however, a reason for initial and then periodic endoscopies. If your initial biopsies don't show dysplasia, endoscopy with biopsy should be repeated about every 3 years. If your biopsy shows dysplasia, your doctor will make further recommendations
