No, but....: Not necessarily, but the fillings can be blended in better to match the tooth, and may be more retentive with some modifications to the adjoining tooth structure. Also, very thin composite fillings that have occlusal forces exerted on them may require greater depth for strength and durability. Every case is different.

Maybe: It depends why the filling is needed. If there is decay ( a cavity) yes some tooth structure will be removed. If there is a chip or wear then you may not need to remove much tooth structure
