How many ius of vitamin d2 and ius of vitamin d3 does an adult male vegan need on a daily basis? does it depend on his calcium intake? is it ok to take vitamin d in morning pills and take in calcium in different meals throughout the day?

The Office: of Dietary Supplements of National Institutes of Health's (odd.od.nih.gov) Recommended Dietary Allowance is 600 IU/day for males 19-50 years. As a vegan, it would be difficult to get in diet as principle sources are fatty fish, eggs, fortified milk. Vitamin D2 and D3 can be considered equivalent; most supplements are D3 (you don't need both). AM dosing ok; calcium recommendation is 1000 mg/d.
