Define "recover": You can certainly function better when it comes to activities of daily living, job performance, mental processing, etc. when you get adequate restorative sleep. Depending on the degree of deficit, impairment of physical parameters during a period of growth may or may not be possible. The average 16 yo requires 9 hours of sleep/d with increases based on physical & mental excesses.

Agree w Dr. Ferguson: Symptoms of sleep deprivation can include irritability, feeling tired, poor concentration, decreased memory, changes in appetite, poorer ability to handle stress, lack of comprehension with social interactions. In severe cases it can lead to psychosis !! Why so sleep deprived? Most of these should improve as you get normal sleep. Improve sleep now.
