A member asked:

Does iron level alone matter? i.e if iron is low but hgb, hct are normal, does the iron matter?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Iron alone matters: A 30 year old man should have a normal iron level. If it is low it suggests blood loss. Some people do not get enough iron in their diet or have parasites that cause constant blood loss in their stools. They should identify the cause of the low iron. It could be serious. Then take iron replacement.
