Safety First: Some people with Essential Thrombocytosis (ET) are treated by removing the extra platelets (plateletapheresis), usually because they have symptoms from the high count (bleeding or clotting). The platelets may not be normal, so not given to others. Most younger people (<60) with ET either need no treatment or, if they do, take medications that would exclude them from donating.
