Exam: Your doctor can give you a better idea as to whether it is cancer or not. However the presence of pus tends to indicate infection although tissue breakdown in a rapidly growing cancer may rarely simulate pus. The older you are, the longer the lesion being present, the more likely the lesion is cancerous.

Diagnosis of: cancer would be made by getting a biopsy of the lesion and then having it checked by a pathologist. Often cysts or infections may extrude pus or similar material.
