No.: Usually, an umbilical hernia does not hurt. The worst-case scenario would be if a loop of bowel gets caught in the hernia -- that hurts! This left-sided abdominal pain may be from abdominal muscles being strained or some colon problem..

Unsure: Umbilical hernia will not usually cause back and rib pain but could cause abdominal pain. Physical examination by your primary care provider will be helpful
