Don't Rx the labs: The sed rate is ordered too often. It's prone to lab error. It's only helpful in evaluating a couple of autoimmune / arthritis family diseases; on a fishing expedition, a very high (well over 50) value warns that something's going on, but a basic evaluation by a competent physician should pick this up. Otherwise, it gives no information that a good history and physical exam does not.
