Melatonin is safe: Trazadone is an antidepressant which may cause reduced sleep. A different antidepressant may be more effective. Using Melatonin along with an antidepressants is fine and may improve his sleep. Try it for one week and judge for yourself. How old is your son? Do share this information with his treating doctor or better yet seek consultation with a psychiatrist who may be helpful to guide you furthe

NO: The dose of melatonin is .5 to 5mg. Dose according to weight. How old is your son? How big? 10 mg of melatonin is double the maximum dose and may cause toxic symptoms including insomnia. Trazodone is very useful for long term sleeping aid. Melatonin is much less reliable.
