Immediate: Air embolism causes symptoms immediately -- within a few seconds (the time it takes blood to reach the lungs from the source of the air, e.g. IV line). A few bubbles in the line isn't a problem. Enough air to cause symptoms almost never can enter through an IV line unless intentionally injected.
