A member asked:

Do antipsychotics need to be taken when schizophrenic symptoms are gone? what is it doing when the patient is no longer schizophrenic? is it beneficia

Yes: Antipsychotics control symptoms of schizophrenia and it may look like they are completely gone but if the medication is stopped symptoms will return. It would be tha same as stopping blood pressure medicine because the blood pressure is normal after taking the medication. Unfortunately, there are no medications that cure schizophrenia. Regular follow up with a psychiatrist is crucial.
