It's a fad: This is not something recommended by physicians. I agree with Dr. Z. This is touted at health stores and other places trying to get your money to do a purge or cleanse or some other odd explanation they give.

Not recommended.: Contrary to what you may have read, there is no medically valid reason to engage in prolonged fasting. It is not necessary, and it is not recommended. Good luck.
