Palpitations: When you feel rapid, skipping, or extra heartbeats, we call that palpitations. They are not necessarily dangerous. However, if palpitations are sustained more than a minute, and associated with chest discomfort, shortness of breath, lightheadedness or fainting, then that's worrisome and should be evaluated by a doctor.
