Good sleep hygiene: There are a number of reasons why initiation of sleep can be problematic. Drugs can be helpful, but good sleep hygiene is more effective, including going to bed and arising at the same time every day, no lights/screens, subdued lighting at night, no stimulants like caffeine after the afternoon, getting up if you are awake in the night to go to another room, etc. See your doctor for more info.
