I assume you: are referring to an ankle x ray report....even if another this is the same as a "chip fracture" and does well (heals) WITHOUT SURGERY and will NOT interfere with athletic participation although some form of splinting may be necessary for a while! Hope this is helpful! Dr Z

Depends: this means a piece of bone has been pulled off from the parent bone. It can be a tiny piece or a large chunk. Treatment totally depends on the location of the fracture, the size of the avulsed piece, the amount of displacement and clinical picture-amount of pain, dysfunction, etc. Most patients heal well and return to sports.
