Shock: Sudden shock and fear can cause people to get 'stunned' and ''speechless' momentarily however if it persists longer, it needs evaluation by doctors to rule out other causes. Other causes of speech loss include lesions in the brain or a stroke.

Fear: Or panic could cause someone to temporarily lose ability to talk. Sometimes this can be prolonged with stressful situations. It would however require assessment if ability to talk is not rapidly (within moments) reattained, or if there hadn't been a stressful circumstance to explain the loss of talking. Best to get checked out by your GP to make sure no serious underlying medical disorder
