Sarcoidosis: A bronchoalveolar lavage cell count is done to try and better define a lung condition you are investigating and consists of a count, which is usually less than 600 per field, and and analysis of the biologic and immune characteristics of these cells. A person who has bilateral enlargement of mediatinal lymph nodes with an elevated BAL cell count may have sarcoidosis. Good luck.
