Makes sense.: Swelling as you describe it is usually caused by an instability of the ankle. The edema is the body's way of using water to form a cast for increased stability. The issue is to find just why the stability is needed. Fasciitis and plantar spur can and often do cause pain which could cause you to alter your normal stance and gait. This change can change the way you ankle works and causes swelling.
