Side effects: Itraconozole is usually well tolerated, but some people will experience nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, rash , headache or other mild symptoms. Like many medications, occasionally it can irritate the liver or pancreas, or worsen heart failure, among other more serious conditions.

Why do you ask?: Histoplasmosis is either trivial or deadly. A majority of folks in my old hang-out in Kansas City had a few old histoplasmosis lesions and they were in no danger from them. The systemic infection almost killed my med school roommate -- and you're more fortunate than him since itraconazole is now available, which is amazingly well-tolerated compared with the old Rx's. Get that 2nd opinion. Cheers.
