Need to examine: High hemoglobin may be due defects in hemoglobin, e.g., it binds oxygen too tightly, cardiac defects allowing venous and arterial blood to mix in the heart, lung disorders preventing proper oxygenation of blood and a form of cancer of blood. It would be prudent to consult a hematologist for an evaluation.

History is key: If you've been like this all your life, this may be your normal value and need not be a concern. If you tend to turn blue or have poorer exercise tolerance than your peers, you may have a right-to-left shunt in heart or lungs that's been missed. You may have a minor Hgb or receptor mutation. I trust you're not on anabolic steroids. The Hgb is high-normal for a guy in my book.
