Other condition: You may have other separate problem in addition to the iron deficiency anemia. You may have a blood disorder that is called thalassemia trait, in addition to the iron deficiency/. Thalassemia trait can explain why your rbc is elevated and your MCV is out proportionally low to the level of hb. Talk to your doctor and get the blood test to check it.

Thal minor: You may also have this. Get a hematology consult as RBI will not be high in pure iron deficiency.
