Mucus: If you have the urge but are unable to pass stool, try inserting a glycerin rectal suppository, dulcolax rectal suppository or a gentle Fleet enema. If still unable to pass stool and especially if you're experiencing abdominal cramps or a distended abdomen, you should have an abdominal and rectal examination to check for impaction. If these symptoms aren't present it's safe to wait a day.
