No: band is only effective if attached to the tooth

Call immediately: I would hope that you are seeing a specialist Orthodontist. There are many reasons for loose appliances, most related to excessive force being applied to the assemblage. The sooner the broken brace is fixed, the sooner effective treatment can continue. Leaving a brace broken means teeth are not being properly guided, and ultimately longer time treatment. Get it fixed ASAP.
