Depends on symptoms: You only need a "shot" after a bee sting if you are having a severe allergic reaction. Most people don't require this, and can instead use topical cortisone cream and oral diphenhydramine (benadryl) if needed for swelling and itching; tylenol or ibuprofen plus an ice pack for pain. If your symptoms are manageable 18 hours after a sting, and have no sign of infection (pus), skip the doc visit.

Venom allergy: allergic reaction to a bee sting should occur within hours. however, if you have an allergy and have not been stung in awhile, then a new sting can re-sensitize and the next sting has the potential of being deadly. If you think you have a venom allergy, see an allergist for testing in order to quantify risk and to see if potentially life saving immunotherapy is for you
