A member asked:

How does taking antibiotics to treat strep throat prevent rheumatic fever if the body has already release antibodies before treatment started?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Timing: There is a period of time during which the antibody response has not reached a level that RF would be triggered. Studies suggest you have up to 10 days from first fever to start abx before the trouble would start. It is likely 5 days for the kidney damage sometimes associated with strep. Consider it a near miss.
