Nonstarter question: Though MRI is better at picking up what turn out to be mesotheliomas on the pleura, the only accurate diagnosis occurs by biopsy or cytology - you need to see cells under a microscope to make a diagnosis. Pleural anomalies can cause discomfort (irritation, difficulty breathing, pain with coughing) but whether or not mesothelioma causes pain depends on location, too; & not all chest pain is cancer.
