A member asked:

I had an mri with contract on my chest and a chest x-ray, would this potentially show lung scarring ? or can a ct scan only clearly show the image?

An MRI of the chest with or without contrast can show great detail and is used to further explain abnormalities seen on chest xrays and chest CT scans. This includes scars.

For many parts of the body, the resolution of MRI is excellent and often better than that of CT. However, the lungs are an area which, due to their physical make up, as well as issues related to motion artifact, CT scan gives much finer resolution in general. All image modalities improve over time, and superiority of CT for lungs may one day change. But as of now,CT provides better lung images.
