Follow up: For adults, a normal heptoglobin value is 50 to 220 mg/dL. Since your test result is slightly higher I suggest a follow-up test & complete history. This test is a sensitive test for hemolytic anemia but other lab tests may now be needed to help determine the cause. Rheumatic disease, heart attack, infection, ulcerative colitis and androgens are among possible causes.
