In my estimation the only clinical value of testing haptoglobin levels is to determine the rate of red blood cell destruction as seen in hemolytic anemias. High levels are seen in increased rates of the destruction of red blood cells which could be a secondary effect of many disorders that have high sedimentation rates. I don't think that is a prominent feature of fatty liver or gastroenteritis.
