Protonix: If the difficulty is at the throat level, try a smaller preparation like nexium or prilosec. Zantac or pepcid, a different class of acid blockers, may also be smaller. If things feel stuck in the esophagus a gastroenterologist will look into esophageal motility disorder.

I have been taking 40 mg of protonix for acid reflux. I have trouble swallowing pills. My pharmacist said it was ok to cut the pill in half even though I read you shouldn't cut or crush pills. It has been helping me with my acid reflux. Is it ok?
