I agree: Your description is good for conjunctivitis and there are several different causes, most commonly bacterial and viral, but a severe allergic reaction can also cause redness and itching but usually without discharge. Conjunctivitis, or pink eye, as some refer to it, is usually treated with Rx eye drops. See your doctor for confirmation and Rx.
