A member asked:

Is it possible to palpate your styloid process under ear ? i seem to do it easily. or is it a very hard lump node ? thanks in advance

Palpation: The only ear structures you can palpate are the external ear which is partially cartilage and the entrance of the ear canal. You may be palpating an inclusion cyst or lymph node behind the ear which has nothing to do with the ear itself.

You are probably: feeling the mastoid process of the temporal bone, not the styloid process. The styloid process is generally too deep and thin to palpate. An abnormally elongated styloid process can sometimes be palpated in the tonsillar fossa of the pharynx, which can cause a constellation of symptoms called Eagle Syndrome.
