Likely: Heartburn is caused by acid reflux disease (GERD) and not by any problem with the heart. Pantoprazole reduces acid production in the stomach and helps improve the symptoms. Heartburn symptoms can sometimes mimic angina (chest pain), talk to a healthcare provider to determine if that might be the case.

No.: Theoretically someone can have a heart problem and GERD at the same time. And chest pain from a heart source could be intermittent, so "improvement" with Pantoprazole could just be coincidental. I would not use this exclusively to rule out the possibility of heart disease.

Heartburn.: Heartburn is mainly a problem of stomach when acidic content of stomach leaks into the esophagus above the stomach. It is not a heart problem. However, some patients with ischemic heart disease might have chest pain similar to chest pain due to heartburn. So you need to see your doctor at least one time to rule out any cardiac causes to be sure due to your history of high cholesterol and diabetes.
