Tooth stain: I sounds like it could be a stain. Other possibilities are early decalcification or enamel imperfection. Next time specifically ask your dentist what is it and can anything be done to remove it? Most likely composite bonded fillings can be used to restore tooth and remove all signs of discolored spot.

Possibly: The white "stain" could be hypocalcification (developmental aberration in the development of the tooth enamel) which would not be visualized on the x-ray. The best answer to your question may be from your dentist who has been following you for many years.

Can,t see: Without examining you there is no way to tell if it's abstain, cavity, or enamel defect. Please bring your concerns up with your Dentist. He/she can discuss with you procedures to make the discoloration disappear.
