Ultrasound: Your physician is looking for anything in the lower part of your abdomen outside the colons (as these cannot be seen with ultrasound: CT or colonoscopy better here) that could explain the pain and lymph nodes. Ultrasound is an easy, low risk evaluation that is often used as a first test in examination of lower abldominal, pelvic area pain.
