A member asked:

Hello, my son, 6 months now was prescribed fenistil for common cold and runny nose not assiciated with allergy. is it ok?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Off label use.: Fenistil is an anti allergy medication used for itching and rashes due to allergy. It can relieve inflammation. It has antihistamine and anticholinergic effects and is a stronger medication than I would consider using in a six month old child. Cold symptoms at this age are best treated with simple measures such as saline nose drops to relieve congestion and Tylenol for discomfort or fever.
