Yes: The HIV 4th generation test detects genetic material of HIV itself, and is very accurate--95% at 4 weeks. There are a small number of people who are infected, but the virus is not detectable in their bodies until more time has passed. Most experts recommend a final test at 6 months after exposure. If this is negative, you are not infected. Other diagnoses for your symptoms should be pursued.
