Back pain: There are numerous causes of lower back pain. It is difficult to reach a diagnosis without a proper examination of your back and abdomen. The back pain could arise from your kidneys, rib cage, spine or hip and pelvic joints. It could be due to inflammation from an old injury, arthritis or disc pain, hip bursitis, kidney stones - the possibilities are endless. You need to see your doctor.

Different causes: There are many causes of lower back pain ranging from disc herniation to issues involving other organs. Although the fact that your pain worsens while laying down leads me to think its a bone or joint issue, an exact answer would be difficult without further workup and examination by your primary care provider. Please follow up with your PCP for further evaluation and treatment.
