A member asked:

I have ibs and am often constipated. but i also have hypothyroidism and know that fiber can interfere with my medication i take for it. what do i do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fiber conflict: Fiber, of both soluble & insoluble variety, provides health benefits--accelerates how quickly food transits through the gut; adds bulk to stool & improves bowel regularity; fills you up. Too much fiber can make you gassy, increase stool volume, interfere with drug metabolism. Ask your doc about appropriate timing of fiber and Rx intake. The good news--the pipeline for IBS-C drugs is exciting.
