A member asked:

Hello. i have an iron level of 2 and a ferritin level of <8. what could be the inderlying cause of this? i have had previous iron insfusion.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

This is serious: Heavy monthly loss may explain it, but you're losing blood from a stomach ulcer or GI tumor until proved otherwise. Your physician will get right on this. Trusting also that you're not a non-supplementing vegetarian -- maintaining adequate iron is very difficult for such folks. I got iron deficient donating blood despite (spotty) supplementing. Best wishes.
