Because of bacterial: resistance, dual therapy (usually with an injection of Ceftriaxone along with an oral antibiotic) is preferred. However, if it is an uncomplicated gonorrheal infection of the urethra or rectum then Cefixime 400 mg orally in single dose ALONG WITH Azithromycin 1 g orally in single dose is usually adequate treatment. Any sexual partners in the prior 60 days to symptoms should seek evaluation.
